Daikin CTXM+FTXM 5 kW (CTXM15M2V1B / 2MXM50M) — will it pass the neighbour noise test?

At 3 m from your neighbour's window it gives ≈42.5 dB(A) — over England's 37 dB(A) limit; at 5 m it is still over (≈38.0). Manufacturer-declared 60 dB(A) LwA (the manufacturer's outdoor sound-power number), 3 dB quieter than the median 5 kW unit (663 families). £ per summer ≈£61.93 at 400 hours and 26.32p/kWh (estimated from 5.0 kW ÷ SEER (summer cooling efficiency; higher uses less electricity) 8.5). At 200 hours ≈£30.96, at 800 hours ≈£123.86. This outdoor unit is registered with 2 indoor units.

What cooling capacity is registered for this family?

Daikin CTXM+FTXM 5 kW (CTXM15M2V1B / 2MXM50M) is registered at 5.0 kW cooling design load (EPREL, manufacturer-declared, checked 2026-09-25). A room-area conversion is not on file: this build does not apply an uncited floor-area rule.

Do I need planning permission for this family in England, Wales or Scotland?

Class G (the England and Wales rule for a heat-pump outdoor unit) is not a yes from the model card alone. Product class is multi. On a house in England the outdoor unit has to be under 1.5 m³, meet 37 dB at the neighbour's window and stay off a road-facing wall in a conservation area; a block of flats is one unit up to 0.6 m³ (Class G as amended 29 May 2025, checked 25 Sep 2026). The address, the volume and the wall are what the planning check still needs. In Northern Ireland the outdoor unit is Class G of SR 2015/70 as substituted by SR 2023/95: a dwellinghouse, used to provide heat, and MCS 020 Issue 1.3 (42 dB(A)), not the England 37 dB figure.
